The word is officially out, we’re moving to Denver, Colorado in June. Michelle has been accepted to the University of Denver MSW program with a pretty big scholarship and I’ve been hired as a Technology Guru for the Denver School of Science and Technology Middle School.
We’re very excited about the big move and we can’t wait to go out there next week to visit our schools and look for a house. The best part is not having to endure another summer of 125 degree heat here in the desert. It’s going to be a big shock considering it’s only 27 degrees in Denver right now.
The worst part is moving away from all our family and friends that are here. Anyone know of any good restaurants in Denver?
What a busy, tiring day. We’re sitting in JFK right now getting ready for the long flight home and we all need a little break from each other and we need to get some sleep. Today our group rode a Subway, a Ferry, a Bus, and an Airplane all in one day. I might post more pictures later once I go through and pick out some favorites, let me know what you want to see in the comments!
It all started with our trip to the Statue of Liberty…

And a very cold ferry ride to Liberty Island….

Where we took pictures in front of Lady Liberty…

Then back on the ferry…

And a tour of the immigration center at Ellis Island…

Then we walked to Ground Zero and the World Trade Center site where we toured the Tribute WTC museum…

Which was very intense and emotional for everyone…

The whole scene was very intense…

Luckily we were given a comfortable bus for our ride back to JFK airport, one of the nicest perks of the trip…

We finally had some sunshine today, but it was still freezing cold. Everyone seems to have recovered from their jetlag, so there was less sleeping on the floor of restaurants, but they still couldn’t handle all the walking around town. We got a late start today from our hotel The New Yorker…

and decided to just do a quick breakfast at one of the 3 Starbucks within 1 block of our hotel…

Before jumping on the subway again….

For a quick ride to Columbus Circle and Central Park…

Where they all took pictures and played around in the playground like 10 year olds…

Then back on the subway for a quick lunch at Columbia University…

and then back to Times Square for our Downtown double decker bus tour…

We wrapped up the day with dinner at Bubba Gump’s in Times Square…

And then walked to Rockafeller Center for some very…

very…

VERY…

fun…

ice skating…

And finally we went to the 67th floor and the Top of the Rock observatory for breathtaking views of the city.

One more day to go, with our Statue of Liberty cruise and Ground Zero tour before the very long flight back to CA. We’re coming home soon!!!
It’s really really late, but I wanted to get these new pictures of day 2 online for anyone who cares. Do you care? Leave a comment by clicking “Comments” below. If it’s a note to your student on the trip I’ll pass it along! Today it all started with breakfast at a Diner in our hotel, and then another subway ride on the uptown A with a transfer to the uptown 1, we’re starting to get the hang of this…

We posed for photos on the campus of Columbia University since it wasn’t raining today…

Before having lunch in the cafeteria and then doing some walking to MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) with our friends from Taylor Publishing…

The kids were still a little tired from the red eye flight yesterday and the late night Broadway show…

But once we started moving through the museum they perked up a little…

And even found a few exhibits that they enjoyed…

We wrapped up the museum and prepared to walk back down to Times Square…

But we had to pause to enjoy the modern floor first…

We made it to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner on time…

After a LONG day of walking we were ready for some good food…

And a little birthday surprise…

Finally what the girls have been looking forward to the entire trip, Times Square and SHOPPING…

Tomorrow even more fun at Rockafeller Center, yea!
A group of my students and I left 48 hours ago on a trip to New York for a Yearbook conference. We just finished our full day of fun in the big city, but before I pass out I wanted to post a few pictures for friends and family and parents who wanted to see our activities today…
First we sat in the airport for a long time…
Then we sat on an airplane for a really really long time and after an early morning arrival and long shuttle ride to the hotel, the kids were wiped out…
But we pulled it together for our first NYC Subway ride…
After a few sessions at Columbia University…
We cleaned up at the hotel and got dressed up for our big broadway show after dinner, “Young Frankenstein”…
And missed our dinner reservations at John’s pizza, but they were able to squeeze us in anyway…
And now it stopped raining, and it is a beautiful night in New York City…
More excitement to come tomorrow!
There are a few moments in life when you’re so glad you have kids, and then there’s moments like this when you can’t believe you are so lucky to have two of them. These instances make up for all the pushing, shoving, yelling, and craziness the rest of the time.
